TRAINING
Mental Health First Aid Training provides the knowledge and skills to empower people to have
safe conversations about mental health.
Participants learn about the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
The course reveals the prevalence of and risk factors for mental health problems, discusses the impact on individuals and society and busts the myths and stigma associated with mental illness.
It teaches participants how to recognise the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use problems, and how to help as a first responder when someone presents these signs and symptoms. Participants also learn how to respond in mental health crisis situations, such as suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks,
traumatic events and aggression.
Participants receive a copy of the Standard MHFA manual and are eligible to become an accredited Mental Health
First Aider. CPA Points are also available for some professions.
